Paul Weller , Victoria Hall, Stoke – 12th April 2024 Review - Andy Rax Coops After the best part of a half century as a recording artist, the force of nature that is Paul Weller is back on the road, this time promoting the forthcoming new album ‘66’, which is the age he is on the cusp of turning in May. For this evening’s show, the delightful Grade II listed Victoria Hall played host to the assembling middle age Modfather mob, ready to pay homage to the master changing man.  Providing support were Brighton based Barbara, led by Tydeman brothers John, the front man and Henry on keys. Taking on influences such as The Divine Comedy and ELO, the sharp suited five piece set about the Stoke crowd with their theatrical and quirky pop, including vocal harmonies aplenty. There were also playful attempts to invoke a crowd wave along during ‘Rainy Days In June’ to mixed success, while later in the set they moved into Randy Newman territory with the plinky plonky ‘Don’t Send Me M...

Wolverhampton Civic – Saturday 30th March 2024  Review - L A Morrall  A packed out Civic Hall erupted as Sweden’s finest rock n’ roll band hit the stage tonight. Support band Bad Nerves had warmed up the Wolverhampton crowd with their Ramones-inspired punk rock, and despite a muddy, bass-heavy sound they got their vibe across. Then it was The Hives time to shine.  The band opened with newbie “Bogus Operandi”, from their sixth album “The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons”- with its massive RATM-like power chords. Nicholas Arson, Vigilante Carlstrom (both guitars), and John Gustafsson (bass) stood with their backs to the audience as drummer Chris Dangerous crashed his cymbals, before Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist hit the stage to a rapturous reception. Howlin’ Pelle got the punters involved early on, holding his mic stand out into the crowd, and then taking the mic off and throwing it aloft (Roger-Daltrey style) before (usually) catching it.  They were quickly into garage rock maste...

Leeds o2 Academy , a venue I'd not been to before. Based in Staffordshire, I usually shoot gigs at local venues, so when told there were limited passes available, I consigned myself to the doldrums of hope. Hope you see is what anyone wanting to review or photograph a live gig relies on unless of cause you work for a big publication. Well here at Lemon to a lime, we're not quite up there with the likes of the NME or Rolling Stone magazine. In fact, I'm not even a writer, I'm a photographer who loves music, a photographer who loves the challenge of capturing the energy on stage. Bands, new bands, old bands, our idles, our heroes, Artists who are starting their journey or those that have already had an impact. We wait with anticipation, from the moment the tour's announced, to when we get our ticket, the journey to the venue, In the queue to get in and finally whilst getting our drinks & watching the support bands. Will it all be worth it? For me it started when ...
